PLAYOFFS BEGIN
Friday night was a night of firsts. It was the first night of Peewee Tri-county playoffs and unfortunately it would be the first time the Wallaceburg Subway Peewee #1 team would suffer a loss in league play.
After a great regular season the Subway Peewee #1 team knew it would be a tough task to continue their success in the playoffs. Friday night they faced the Wallaceburg Peewee #2 team.
As of late the Peewee #1 team has had trouble getting things started and this game was no different. The team looked passive and that wasn't a good match to the #2 team's aggressive play, which clearly showed on the ice. Halfway through the period the #2 team opened up the scoring making it 1-0. Fortunately for the #1 team they managed to escape the period only down by one after being outshot 7-0, mainly due to their goalie's performance.
The 2nd period had much of the same; aggressive play and more shots on net by the W'burg #2 team kept W'burg#1 at bay, this time only managing approximately 3 shots on net. By the time the period ended the score was 2-0, and once again solid play by their goaltender kept the game within reach.
In the 3rd W'burg #1 started to get their game managing 3 times more shots than they had all game and scoring with 5 minutes to go on a goal by Caiden Leach-Desangher, assisted by Ty Myers. Unfortunately he proved to be too little too late as W'burg #2 kept coming and scored 2 more goals on 14 shots making it a final of 4-1. Throughout the game #1 team had trouble controlling the puck. W'burg #2 aggressive play caused #1 team to make mistakes they usually wouldn't make. The power play was also an issue for the W''burg #1 team as they failed to score or even get many chances.
The Subway Peewee #1 team hopes to have a short term memory and looks to bounce back from this loss and get back in the win column against Dresden Maroon Friday night at home.
