Game 12 vs. South-Kent Lightning
Sunday night saw the Aarkel Bantam TC1 team travel to Ridgetown to face the South-Kent Lightning.

For South-Kent they were looking to follow up a win in their last game and build on a respectable 5-4-1 record in their last 10.  For Wallaceburg they were looking to continue their hot streak and go 10 in a row since losing game 2 of the season, their only lost thus far.

Things started off slow for both teams as they took some time to gather themselves.  The shots ended 9-2 for the Lakers after 1 period of play.  Even though the Lakers out shot the Lightning they seemed to be off their game and for that reason it was much closer on the ice.

The beginning of the 2nd period saw Wallaceburg successfully fight off a late 1st period penalty kill.  Once again even with their struggles Wallaceburg was able to lead the period in shots going 14-5 by the end of the 2nd.  With a few minutes remaining however, the Lakers got one past the Lightning goalie to give them a boost and a 1-0 lead heading into the 3rd.

In early part of the final frame it was South-Kent who was able to capitalize with a goal from the point after Wallaceburg was able to clear their zone.  The 1-1 tie didn't last long as Wallaceburg came back to take a one goal lead mere seconds later.  After this Wallaceburg managed to hold onto the lead and let a frustrated South-Kent team beat themselves by taking too many penalties.  With a 5 on 3 advantage the Lakers added their 3rd goal of the game and then added 2 more with just over a minute remaining to seal their 11th win of the year and their 10th in a row.

This game was a big test both mentally and emotionally for the team.  As we continue our success the coaches talked about the importance of not taking their opponents for granted by being prepared and focused every night.  Also it was a huge statement to how we as a team can keep our cool when things might not go our way and allow other teams to beat themselves by not retaliating and staying out of the box.  Wallaceburg head to Mooretown next Saturday to face the Flags in their second meeting of the season.

3 stars: Jackson Oliver, Aiden MacDonald and Kaiden Pretranik.  Kaiden was also voted player of the game for holding his own and showing his maturity in the face of adversity; he continues to impress with his leadership on the ice.
