AARKEL BANTAMS - TCHL CHAMPS!
On Saturday the Aarkel Bantam TC1 Lakers travelled to Mooretown to play the Jr. Flags in their 2nd game of the best of 3 series.  Wallaceburg managed to edge out a win in game 1 which went to a 7 round shootout and they were looking to finish things up Saturday.

Excitement filled the arena and nerves filled the players, coaches and parents alike for this big game.  With the support of a huge crowd following the Lakers were hoping to settle in and get things done.

In the beginning Mooretown seemed to have a little more hustle in their legs and were able to win the races to the puck.  Although both teams managed to get some chances it was Mooretown who eventually put one on the board in the 1st period and things would stay this way at the buzzer.

In the 2nd period both teams came out a little more even and it was evident that it was going to be a battle to the end; as it has been throughout the playoffs.  Once again both teams traded chances with a slight edge going to the Lakers.  With both net minders being perfect the 2nd period ended as the first did in a 1-0 lead for the Flags.

After the intermission Wallaceburg came out with more hustle than in the first 2 periods and eventually it would pay off.  Jackson Oliver carried the puck into the offensive zone with a 2-on-1 with Zander Cogghe; from the half boards Jackson made a great pass to Zander who finished things off and tied the game up at 1.  This created even more of a spark in the legs of the Lakers and they kept coming.  Minutes later Jackson Oliver once again showed off his shot by firing past the Mooretown goalie to give Wallaceburg the lead.  Knowing how most of the past games have ended the Lakers knew this was far from over.  After a  Mooretown timeout with just over a minute left the Flags tried to get something started and did manage a couple of shots but were turned away by Macky!  The Flags tried to pull their goalie but the Lakers kept the pressure on in the neutral and offensive zones which caused a delay it that plan.  Eventually Wallaceburg iced the puck and called a timeout knowing Mooretown would pull their goalie.  With a scramble on the faceoff eventually the Lakers got the puck out but only to ice it again and force another faceoff deep in the zone this time with 18 secs to go.  After a quick shot on net and save by Macky Wallaceburg managed to clear the zone and time ran down giving them the win and the Championship!!!

This was a great finish to an excellent year which saw a well deserving team get the title.  After all was said and done the team sported an amazing season resume:
