Game 11 vs Mooretown Jr. Flags
After taking home the Championship Banner last weekend from the Mooretown Jr. Flags tournament it was time for the Aarkel Bantam TC1 team to get back on the ice for regular season play.
Coincidentally the Lakers were hosting the Mooretown Jr. Flags in their 1st league game of the season. Wallaceburg was riding an 8 game winning streak from the 1st half of the season and looking to continue their success.
In the 1st period Wallaceburg seemed to get off to a slow start and Mooretown took advantage by getting some early shots on net. Eventually the Lakers got their legs and managed to balance things out and ended up out shooting the Flags 7-6. With less than a minute to go in the period the Lakers were able to take a 1-0 lead on a goal by Jackson Oliver, assisted by Zander Cogghe.
In the 2nd period Wallaceburg came out with more fire than the 1st and manage to dominate the majority of the period. By the end of the frame they had directed 21 shots towards the Mooretown net minder and successfully put 3 more goals past him. On the other end of the ice Wallaceburg's goalie, Aiden MacDonald was able to stay perfect on 4 Mooretown shots.
In the 3rd period Wallaceburg unfortunately came out like they did in the first and allowed Mooretown to take advantage with a goal from around the net. However, once again the Lakers got their legs under them and balanced things out with a goal of their own and take a 5-1 lead to the final buzzer. At the end of the 3rd the shots were close with the advantage going to Wallaceburg 8-7.
After the game the coaches focussed on the team's slow start and the importance of working hard with the lead. The 3 stars selected were: Carter Marcolin, Ross Broadbent and also voted player of the game was Jackson Oliver.
