Ojichaag Yindaawin - Spirit of Community
Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association is excited to be kicking off our "Ojichaag Yindaawin - Spirit of Community" event beginning on Truth and Reconciliation Day on September 30 through October 29. This event is meant to recognize Truth and Reconciliation Day, raise awareness of the impact of Residential School System in our local community and go beyond a one-day National Holiday.

Approximately 25% of our Lakers have direct ties to Walpole Island First Nation and this event will allow our Lakers the opportunity to participate in activities centred on our shared love of hockey.

During the month of October each Lakers team will have the opportunity to play games with new commemorative orange jerseys featuring our Ojichaag Yindaawin - Spirit of Community Logo. The event will begin with a game and special ceremony on Truth and Reconciliation Day and will conclude with another game and closing ceremony on October 29. Throughout the month we will have special activities including First Nations Food Vendors at the arena, sharing of stories of our local residential school survivors, and we will be fundraising for two local groups - Walpole Island Residential School Survivors Committee along with Bkejwanong Youth Council.

We’re kicking things off Monday September 19 with merchandise sales and the start of our colouring contest for our young Lakers and youth in our community. Commemorative hoodies will be on sale beginning Monday September 19 from 6-9:30 pm with sales nights scheduled throughout our event.

We’re excited to bring this event to our Lakers and to our communities. Please join with us for "Ojichaag Yindaawin - Spirit of Community"!
