WHO IS FRANK?

For over five decades anyone in and around Wallaceburg, ON who has ever laced up a pair of skates knows the name Frank Dymock.  He spent much of days (especially after his retirement) huddled in his shop waiting to repair, sharpen or even lend out skates to anyone who walked through the door.  He always refused payment, instead he directed people to a water bottle for donations which he then handed over to minor hockey or other worthy causes.  And if you needed skates he gave them to you with only the promise of returning them so the next child could use them.  His shop was so well known it wasn’t uncommon to see the odd professional hockey player or referee stop in with their skates on their commute between Detroit and Toronto; even the Stanley Cup made a visit!

Many people share the same memories of Frank.  Whether it was a quick hello on the way to the rink for some public skating and that ever important minor hockey game, or longer visits which included listening to some of his many stories - it always ended the same way; with a sucker for the kids, smiles on the face of everyone and a warm experience (and that just wasn’t from the heat of his woodstove).

For his selfless acts of generosity towards everyone, Wallaceburg recognized Frank by naming a bridge close to his home after him.  In 2009 he was named a life member of the Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association and in 2012 was Wallaceburg's citizen of the year.

Since 2008 the Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association has honoured Frank’s passion and commitment to the game by hosting the Frank Dymock Classic, which he has enthusiastically attended yearly.  With all proceeds going back into the town’s minor hockey program.  In December 2013, Wallaceburg sadly lost a great friend – Frank Dymock died at the age of 82.  We look to keep his memory alive by continuing to successfully host this tournament for we know that Frank will be watching and enjoying the game from above.  By joining us this weekend you have helped us remember and honour Frank.

On behalf of the Dymock family & Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association we Thank-you!
