Bantam Tri County 1 travel to Windsor for the Hockey for Hospice charity tournament
This past weekend the Bantam Tri County 1 team travelled to Windsor to participate in the Hockey for Hospice Charity tournament. The kids were responsible for collecting pledges that would allow them to play and earn extra points for our team. For every $250.00 raised our team was able to earn 1/2 point (up to a max of 5 pts). Our team was able to raise a total of $1150.00 which provided us with 2 pts. Aden Kerr and Neetawhis Shognosh-Diaz were our top pledge raisers with $175.00 each.

In total there were 20 teams in the Bantam house league division. Our first game started off against Bergeron Art & Frame from Riverside and our kids definitely showed up to play! The final score was 6-0 in favor of us and gave us 5 points to add to our total.  Big kudos to our goalie, Cody DenBoer, who earned another shut out win. Scoring efforts were put forth by Zach Parry with 2, Aden Kerr, Nolan Altiman, Sawyer Sys and Stone Jacobs with one each. Each and every player played a great game!
Our second game proved to be a bit more of a challenge against Blue Nitro from Amherstburg, but our offense kept us on the winning side with a score of 4-2 and earning us 4.5 points. Sys had 2 goals and Altiman and Caden Jeffs had 1 each.
Saturday afternoon brought us to our third and final regulation game against Kings 1 of Kingsville. We had a special guest (and surprise) coach, as a player from the Essex 73's was on the bench to help. He was also to pick a player of the game for us. The game started off rough, but the kids pulled through to keep the score tied at 2-2 and split the points at 2.5 each. Kerr and Parry scored the goals for this game.  Jenna Jardine, Shognosh-Diaz and Gavin Goetz played aggressively digging along the boards and around the net and never backing down. Kerr was handed player of the game. He received a special plated puck and 2 tickets to an Essex 73's vs. Wallaceburg Laker Jr. C hockey game.
After regulation the Wallaceburg Bantam Tri County 1 team ended up 3rd overall with a total of 14 points (which included our pledge points) and were headed to the "A" pool semi finals later that evening.
Our Semi final game was played against the 2nd place Amherstburg Bantam Hawks. With Wallaceburg having a key player suffering an injury and another key player out on suspension, the cards seemed stacked against us as we were already playing with a shortened bench. The kids tried to pull it together for the win, but completely ran out of gas, losing with a score of 3-1. The lone goal scorer was Jeffs, but all the kids deserve a huge pat on the back for playing with heart and representing Wallaceburg Minor Hockey with a lot of class.
All in all the Bantam Tri County 1 team had a good weekend full of great hockey and lots of fun, both on and off the ice!
